Obs:

Correction 23.5.2024 at 8.00. The amount of victims of homicides was before incorrectly stated as 1, the corrected amount is 51. The error was due to the lag in update in the database on times of death.
Correction 24.5.2024 at 14.45. The number of victims of sexual offences was miscalculated. The number of victims of sexual offences in 2009 to 2022 is around 1,000 higher as is the number of victims of all offences. The corrected figure for 2023 is around 500 higher than previously reported.
Documentation of statistics . missing The Road Traffic Act was amended on 1 June 2020, and as a result, an administrative sanction is imposed for certain traffic infractions instead of a fine. For this reason, the number of traffic infractions in the statistics on offences has declined considerably. This also impairs the comparability of offences and infractions total against older years. The legislation on sexual offences was amended at the beginning of 2023.

ICCS offence category

The ICCS classification of offences is the classification of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). This classification is based on descriptions of criminal acts rather than on legal acts. The aim has been to form a classification suitable for international comparisons. The sections and definitions of the ICCS classification differ somewhat from the national classification based on legal acts used in Finland.
