Concepts and definitions Data on students for the cross-sectional point on 20 September. Vocational education students from 2013 onwards for the whole calendar year. Military education is included in the figures starting from 2010.

Area

The location of education is based on the location municipality of education (upper secondary school students, vocational education in educational institutions, polytechnic and university education) or the location municipality of the educational institution (comprehensive school education, adult basic education and matriculation examinations) or the location municipality of the education provider (vocational apprenticeship training). The divisions of regions and of fields of education used in the entire time series are from 2017.

Type of Education

Koulutuslajista voidaan muodostaa koulutussektorit: perusasteenkoulutus (peruskoulukoulutus ja perusasteen aikuiskoulutus), lukiokoulutus (nuorten opetussuunnitelma ja aikuisten opetussuunnitelma), ammatillinen koulutus (opetussuunnitelmaperusteinen ammatillinen peruskoulutus (ei oppisopimuskoulutus), näyttötutkintoon valmistava koulutus: perustutkinnot, ammattitutkinnot ja erikoisammattitutkinnot (ei oppisopimuskoulutus), opetussuunnitelmaperusteinen ammatillinen peruskoulutus (oppisopimuskoulutus), näyttötutkintoon valmistava koulutus: perustutkinnot, ammattitutkinnot ja erikoisammattitutkinnot (oppisopimuskoulutus), ammattikorkeakoulututkinnot: päivätoteutus, monimuotototeutus ja jatkokoulutus (ylemmät AMK-tutkinnot), yliopistokoulutus: yliopistojen peruskoulutus ja jatkokoulutus. Vuoteen 2014 asti ammattikorkeakoulututkintojen koulutuslajit olivat Ammattikorkeakoulukoulutus, nuorten koulutus, Ammattikorkeakoulukoulutus, aikuiskoulutus ja Ammattikorkeakoulukoulutus, jatkokoulutus (ylemmät AMK-tutkinnot). Taulukon aikasarjassa käytetään vuodesta 2015 alkaen käytössä olleita nimiä Ammattikorkeakoulututkinto, päivätoteutus, Ammattikorkeakoulututkinto, aikuiskoulutus ja Ammattikorkeakoulututkinto, jatkokoulutus (ylemmät AMK-tutkinnot).
